Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • tsp salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 whole egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2+1 ripe pears

For the cinnamon sugar

  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • For the cinnamon sugar, mix everything that is listed under 'For the cinnamon sugar' until combined and keep it aside until further use.

  • Pre-heat an oven at 180°C. Grease and line the bottom and the sides of the cake tin with butter and parchment paper.

  • Sift together flour, salt and baking powder and keep it aside.

  • Add butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat until smooth.

  • Add egg, one at a time and beat until just combined.

  • Add the milk and beat it along with the butter mixture.

  • Add vanilla extract and mix well.

  • Add sifted flour mixture and beat it until just combined and lump-free.

  • Peel and chop one pear very finely and add it to batter and fold gently.

  • Peel and slice the rest of the pears into thin pieces.

  • Pour the batter into the prepared tin. Gently tap against the table to remove any air bubbles.

  • Arrange the sliced pears over the batter, starting from the outside edge. Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar on top. Bake in a pre-heated oven for 30-45 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

  • Cool the cake for 10 minutes in the tin, then remove it from the tin, slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not over mix the batter. 
  • Adding cinnamon sugar is completely optional and you can skip it if necessary.
  • The cake takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes to bake depending on the oven and the size of the cake tin used. So, make sure that the cake is completely baked by inserting a skewer and checking.
  • Do not over bake the cake.
  • bake for 30 minutes and then check for doneness. If it is still undercooked then bake for additional 5 or 10 minutes or until required.
  • If you like, then you can top the cake with unpeeled pears too instead of peeled ones.
  • Once you pour the batter into the cake tine, make sure to tap it against the table to remove any air bubbles.
  • Cool the cake for 10 minutes in the tin before you take it out. If the cake does not come out easily, then run a spatula over the edges of the cake to loosen it a bit and then demold it.
  • You can serve the cake with ice cream or just whipped cream.
