Cuisine Indian
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk powder
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 100 grams dark compound chocolate
- 3/4 cup crushed oreo cookies (or any other biscuit)
- 3/4 cup powdered almonds (or any other nuts of your choice)
Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30-40 seconds. Mix it well to break any lumps.
Remove the cream filling from the oreo cookies and powder the biscuits.
Powder raw almonds and keep it aside until further use.
In a wide kadai, add milk and cocoa powder. Mix well without any lumps.
Add milk powder to the chocolate milk and mix well avoiding lumps. Keep the kadai on heat and bring it to a boil.
Now add the melted chocolate and mix it thoroughly.
Add the condensed milk and mix it well with the other contents. Let it cook on very low heat.
Add the powdered cookies to the mixture in the kadai and mix well.
Add the powdered nuts and mix it thoroughly.
The mixture will now start to come together as a solid mass.
Transfer it to a plat greased with ghee and let it cool down.
When the mixture is cool enough to handle, grease the modak mould with some ghee.
Stuff the mould with the chocolate modak mixture and press the mould together to form the modak shape. Let it set for sometime.
Serve it warm or cold.
- Make sure the milk is pre-boiled and cold.
- While mixing the cocoa powder and milk powder, make sure that there are no lumps formed and also make sure that the kadai is not on flame.
- Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and mix it to make sure that the chocolate has melted evenly.
- Add condensed milk according to the sweetness of your choice.
- Instead of oreo cookies, you can even use marie biscuits of any digestive biscuits.
- Instead of almond, use any other nut of your choice or even a combination of nuts can be used.
- You can also add some dessicated or fresh coconut. If adding then reduce the amount of powdered cookies or nuts and substitute for the same.
- After adding the powdered cookies and nuts, do not cook the mixture for long as it results in a dense modak when cooked for a long time.
- The solid chocolate mixture tends to cook even after transferring to the plate because of the heat. So, do not cook for long. Ideal time to transfer it into a plate would be a few seconds after the mixture comes together.
- If you do not have a mould to make the modaks, then shape it by hand.
